Learn More about CloudStatus

Google App Engine

How is App Engine Health and Performance Determined?

The CloudStatus service reports App Engine health based on 2 requirements:

  1. The App Engine runtime must be able to execute Python programs
  2. App Engine servers must reliably return static content
To determine that App Engine can run simple code, we periodically execute a simple algorithm (Fibonacci) on an application deployed within App Engine. App Engine apps typically also ship with some static content (images, etc.) We periodically make requests for static content to ensure that it is able to serve it.

Engine Metrics

  • Fibonacci—the number of milliseconds it takes to calculate the 27th Fibonacci number.

What is Service Health?

Service health is indicated on charts as:

  • Healthy—indicates full health and satisfactory performance
  • Issues—indicates partial health, instances of less than satisfactory performance, or both
  • Service Failure—indicates service not available, or poor health
